Great Eastern Drive
Grab your sunnies and hit the road for the Great Eastern Drive. This coastal extravaganza is a visual feast of turquoise waters, secluded beaches, and picture-perfect coastal cliffs.
If, like us, you’re a bit of a beach bunny then Tasmania’s East Coast is the place to— hop from beach to beautiful beach and soak up all that coastal goodness.
If you’re looking for some new furry friends, then head to Orford and catch the ferry to Maria Island for the day, which is home to plenty of Aussie wildlife – think wombats, wallabies, roos, and over 120 bird species.
No Tasmania road trip is complete without a visit to Freycinet National Park, which is the ultimate hiker’s paradise. The park is epic, to say the least, with its pink granite mountains, secluded beaches, and a variety of walking trails for all abilities. Wait, there’s more … it’s home to the famous Wineglass Bay, which FYI is like the Mona Lisa of beaches—iconic and absolutely stunning.

The Western Wilds
They don’t say West is best for nothing. Be sure to add Tasmania’s west coast to your travel plans as it’s pretty wild.
From historic towns to UNESCO-listed wonders, the West Coast is where it’s at! The west is mostly made up of the Tasmania Wilderness World Heritage Area, which is home to six national parks and heaps of reserves – so lace up and start exploring, pronto!
Be sure to spend a few days in Lake St Clair National Park, exploring Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair, which is Australia’s deepest natural freshwater lake. So, whether you want to cruise on the lake or prefer to stay on land and explore the trails – there’s something for everyone...

Get your hands dirty unearthing truffles in Deloraine, make friends with the wildlife in Narawntapu National Park and if you’re more of an adrenaline junkie, then head to the Blue Derby trails and try your hand at mountain biking.
Oh, and we can’t forget the floating sauna on Lake Derby, where you can take a refreshing dip and warm your cockles in the sauna afterward.
Southern Edge
Kickstart your South Tassie road trip with a quick 20-minute drive from Hobart to the crown jewel - Mt Wellington. Take a walk to the peak to check out the epic views across Hobart and Southern Tasmania, or you can cruise to the top in your camper via Pinnacle Road.
Head further afield, and take the ferry to Bruny Island, which is an island off an island off an island – try and get your head around that! It’s home to heaps of wildlife, views for days, and local producers specialising in oysters, cheese, and chocolate. Yum!
If you’ve got more than a day to explore Bruny, then lace up and hike the Cape Queen Elizabeth Track and the Fluted Cape Track. You won’t regret it!
If seeing the southern lights is on your list, then you’re in the right place. Tassie is a haven for stargazing and is one of the few places in the world to see the natural lightshow. Top tip: head further south for a better chance to see the southern lights in action.
